Gazette

A family publication dedicated to
our unique heritage.

Why is our quarterly publication called the Gazette? This was once a common name for small newspapers of the past. The word "gazette" comes from the French "gazette" and the Italian "gazetta". The origin of the word is considered to be "gaza", an early nickname for the magpie. It's humorous to note that the magpie is considered a very talkative and gossipy creature. Therefore, the McHenry County Historic Preservation Commission's Gazette is a chatty little newspaper filled with all kinds of information!
